Does my product need BEE registration?

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency star label rates how much energy an appliance uses. For some appliances the label is mandatory, for others voluntary, and the two lists are kept apart on this page. Testing is done at a laboratory the Bureau accepts. Sanmayu supports preparation and filing. The Bureau alone grants the label.

Questions people ask

Not here? Write to us and a named contact replies.

Is the BEE star label mandatory for my appliance?

Check the two lists on this page. An appliance on the mandatory list needs the label; one on the voluntary list may carry it. If yours is on neither, this scheme does not cover it.

Needs expert review

Does a BEE star label replace BIS certification?

No. They are separate. An appliance can need both, and each scheme has its own page and product list.

Needs expert review

What is the difference between mandatory and voluntary?

On a mandatory appliance the label is a legal requirement for the product. On a voluntary one it is a choice a maker can make to show energy performance.

Needs expert review

Does Sanmayu award the star rating?

No. The Bureau grants the label. Sanmayu is an independent consultancy and is not affiliated with it.
