Does my product need BIS CRS registration?

The Compulsory Registration Scheme covers notified electronics and IT products. Each product must be tested against its Indian Standard at a BIS-recognised laboratory and registered with BIS before it can be made, imported or sold in India. Sanmayu supports preparation, test coordination and filing. BIS alone grants the registration.

What makes up the cost of BIS CRS?

The cost has three main components: the government fee, laboratory testing and our professional fee. We describe who charges what and show components, never a total.

Government fee
Charged by the authority. BIS application and registration fees are published by BIS. The amount for your product is confirmed at review. Needs expert review
Lab testing
Charged by the lab, not by us. Set by the laboratory. It depends on the standard, the number of models and any re-tests. Needs expert review
Professional fee
For our work, fixed in writing. Our fee for preparing the file and coordinating testing and filing. Agreed in writing before work starts. Needs expert review
Also possible
Sample shipping, and for a factory outside India the cost of the Authorised Indian Representative arrangement. Needs expert review

We show components, not amounts. A written estimate comes from a named contact after they review your product.

Questions people ask

Not here? Write to us and a named contact replies.

Does my product need BIS CRS registration?

Only if the product and its Indian Standard appear in the official CRS list on this page. A similar product that is not listed may not need it, or may fall under another scheme. Send us the product and its standard and an expert reviews it.

Needs expert review

Is a CE or FCC certificate enough for India?

No. For a product on the notified list, foreign certificates do not replace BIS registration. See the source under this page.

Needs expert review

Can I use a test report from a laboratory in my own country?

BIS decides which laboratories and reports it accepts. We confirm what applies to your product before any testing starts.

Needs expert review

I manufacture outside India. What is different for me?

A foreign manufacturer usually applies through an Authorised Indian Representative; an expert confirms whether that applies to you. The role Sanmayu takes in your case is confirmed in writing before work starts.

Needs expert review

Does Sanmayu grant the registration?

No. BIS grants it. Sanmayu is an independent consultancy that supports preparation, test coordination and filing, and is not affiliated with BIS.

Needs expert review

What happens after registration?

The registration has to be kept valid. A change of model, standard or factory can need an update, and renewal is needed before expiry. The terms are in your registration and are confirmed at review.
