ISO Certification

ISO certification shows that an organisation runs a management system, such as quality under ISO 9001 or environment under ISO 14001, that an independent certification body has audited. ISO itself does not certify anyone. Sanmayu helps you prepare the documents, run the internal checks and arrange the audit. The certification body issues the certificate.

Who needs ISO certification?

Buyers, tenders and exporters often ask for an ISO certificate before they place an order.

  • ManufacturersAsked for ISO 9001 by customers or procurement teams.
  • Service businessesBidding for tenders that require a certified management system.
  • ExportersWhose overseas buyers expect an audited system.

Who issues an ISO certificate?

Not ISO. ISO publishes the standards but does not perform certification, issue certificates or permit its logo to be used for certification. An external certification body audits you and issues the certificate, and an accreditation body checks that the certification body is competent. In India, NABCB accredits management system certification bodies.

Certification bodyAudits your management system and issues the certificate.
Accreditation bodyRecognises that the certification body works to international standards. Accreditation is not compulsory.

Which products or businesses does this apply to?

Organisations of any size that want an audited management system. Certification is voluntary, so which standard fits your business, and whether your buyer accepts it, is for an expert to confirm.

How does ISO certification work?

Ten stages, from choosing the standard to keeping the certificate. The right-hand column is what most often slows each stage.

ISO 9001:2026: what changes for certification?

ISO 9001:2026 is now the current edition and replaces ISO 9001:2015. Organisations certified to the 2015 edition have three years to move to the new one and do not need to start the certification process again. ISO advises agreeing the transition plan with your certification body, which will explain the timelines for your organisation.

  • Unrecognised bodyA certificate from a body buyers do not recognise loses its value.
  • Surveillance auditsThe certificate stays valid only if the periodic audits are passed.
  • Edition changeA certificate to an older edition needs a planned move to the current one.

How do I check an ISO certificate is genuine?

Ask which certification body issued it and whether that body is accredited. For an accredited certificate, you can verify it on the IAF CertSearch database or by contacting the certification or accreditation body. In India, NABCB publishes its list of accredited management system certification bodies. Complaints about false claims go to the certifying body first.
